One of the most interesting parts of preparing for your wedding is the gift registry. Often we get scanning gun in hand and we are off to the races but there are a few things to consider as you are pulling the trigger and building your registry. Think about these few considerations and you should be able to get the things that you want and need and nothing that you have to return.
1) Make sure that you register early:
Registering early lets those individuals that want to to access the registry early make the purchase at their convenience. Otherwise if you wait to register your guests may have to keep coming back to see if the registry has been created.
2) Make sure that you both go register
If only one of you goes to register you may have a registry that reflects only one side of the relationship. Choosing what goes into the home together is important because you want everything to reflect both your personalities. After all the items you register for will often be with you a long time.
3) Keep it in Reason
Not all of your guests will be at the same price point when it comes to the gifts they will purchase for you. Make sure that when you are registering you consider many price points and options so that your guests will feel comfortable making a purchase for you. Having a good mix of items will also allow your guests to choose an item that will feel more personal.
4) Register at 2-3 different stores
Some guests will feel more comfortable shopping a certain stores or may not have access to the one place that you choose. Making sure that you have a few different options in stores will allow our guests more flexibility in what they decide to purchase for you.
5) Register for What you Want
The wedding registry by definition is your opportunity to ask for what you want. Some couples already have some of the things that make up the home. You may be overflowing with kitchen utensils and bath towels so make sure you choose items you need to fill in the gaps. Do not be afraid to register for that gas grill but understand that one guest will not purchase it and the odds that guests will rally together to make that purchase are slim. Consider registering for gift cards so that you can use multiple gifs to buy the bigger items. Again, giving your guests choices will ensure you can get what you want.
6) Say Thanks
There is nothing worse for your guests than not getting a thank you card. It may be a time consuming endeavor to write and send every thank you note but it really makes a difference. Otherwise your guests will wonder if you ever received your gift. A little thanks goes a long way.
